Capt. William N. Norville, father of Josephine Norville, was a lawyer who came to Chillicothe in 1859. He served in the Civil War, forming the first company in Livingston County, Company E, Merrill's Horse. In 1866 he married Belle (Isabelle) Drake. He was one of the early members of Grace Episcopal Church, named as suitable for the position of Vestryman in 1869. He was the circuit attorney from 1868-1873 and active in the political arena. In 1884 he ran for Congress, but lost the election. From at least the 1880s, the Norville's made their family home on east Webster Street. That home was still standing as of 2020.
