DOLPH MAUPIN
Dolph Maupin started Maupin Commercial College in 1898. For the majority of the time, if not the entire time, it was housed on the second floor of the New York Store at Locust and Clay Streets. This college taught bookkeeping, shorthand, telegraphy, penmanship, and English and directly competed with the Chillicothe Normal School, later Chillicothe Business College. 1905 Maupin ran on Democratic ticket as the Councilman for Third Ward and won. In 1910 the college was sold to the vice-president Walter Jackson and moved to the Wallbrunn building at Locust and Webster Streets. Maupin ended up moving to Carrollton and opening a business college there in Brownie’s Hall.
