Fire of 1925
The fire in Chillicothe's "old" City Hall started from a defective flue in the police department offices in the early morning hours of May 17, 1925. The second story quickly caught fire, then a portion of it fell into the first floor, setting it ablaze. Some of the records were carried to safety. The records of the City and the light and water department were also saved, being stored in a vault that withstood the fire.
Mayor William Scruby set up temporary offices for the City, police and and light and water departments in the Beasley building on the north side of the Square. Sipple Clothing used this space previously; it is currently State Beauty Supply.
A new City Hall opened May 6, 1927 in the same location as the old one.
