Ann Eliza Hutchison
Anna Eliza was born in 1816 to Daniel and Lydia Herriman of New Jersey. In 1838 she married Patrick Flaherty and had one son, John who survived to adulthood. In 1857 she married James Hutchison, a carpenter in Livingston County, who helped build the first courthouse in our county. They lived on his farm northwest of Chillicothe until 1881 when they moved to town. Only one of their children, Lydia, grew to adulthood, marrying Henry Graham; their son Allen died in his childhood. Raised a Presbyterian, she changed church affiliations to the Christian Church upon her marriage to James. She was a homemaker and loved quilting. Hers was a simple life of hard work, friends and family, and church. She died somewhat suddenly in 1902 at her house at the corner of Walnut and Clay Streets. It is a testament to her character that a sketch of her was included in her obituary.
